Ben Affleck, Hollywood A-listers dig deep for Democrats

Polls may paint Democrats as on-the-out with voters this November, but Hollywood stars aren’t tossing in the towel yet, and are instead digging deep in their pockets for some last-minute campaign cash to help with sluggish races.

Sen. Al Franken is benefitting big from the 11th hour money drives, netting thousands for his re-election bid against Republican businessman Mike McFadden from the likes of late-nighter David Letterman, “Cheers” leading man Ted Danson, former fellow “Saturday Night Live” comic Will Forte and singer Nancy Sinatra, The Hill reported.

Hollywood’s Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner gave to the Kentucky State Democratic Central Executive Committee. And in recent months, Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes has benefited big from the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicolas Cage, Steven Spielberg, Jerry Seinfeld and “Avatar” director James Cameron, The Hill reported. She’s since tapped out on celebrity donations, the news outlet reported.

Other notable celebrity and Hollywood Democratic donations: Shonda Rhimes, the mind behind television’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” gave $32,400 for the Democratic National Committee; Motown’s Berry Gordy gave the same to the DNC; comedians Steve Harvey and Patton Oswalt, and business world’s Ivanka Trump and Warren Buffett offered up money to Democratic causes, too, The Hill reported.

Polls still show that Tuesday’s votes are heavily favoring Republicans, with the GOP expected to pick up as many as six seats in the Senate and a handful more in the House.
