Redskins rookie cornerback Bashaud Breeland injured his knee late in practice Friday and is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, according to coach Jay Gruden.
Breeland’s knee was examined by doctors immediately after practice. In an interview with ESPN 980 after the examination was complete, Gruden characterized the injury as a sprain.
“He got checked out and looks like he’s going to be okay,” Gruden told the radio station. “Just a sprain. But we’ll find out tomorrow. Hopefully it doesn’t swell up tonight.”
A second person familiar with the situation echoed Gruden’s optimism. “He’s fine,” the person said.
Gruden said Breeland sustained the injury toward the end of Friday’s practice. It did not occur upon contact.
“He just got his foot twisted in the ground. Really awkward,” Gruden said.

The coach listed Tracy Porter, who is now fully healthy, and Chase Minnifield as potential replacements for Breeland if he is not able to play Sunday. E.J. Biggers, who has played primarily in nickel packages, could also receive additional playing time.
In other injury news, safety Ryan Clark (ankle/shoulder) and left tackle Trent Williams (knee) were each limited in practice for a third consecutive day. Both are listed as probable for Sunday’s game.
Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph (abdomen/groin) was the only player ruled out for Minnesota.
