Two months ago, first lady Michelle Obama declared that “women are smarter than men.”

On Friday, her husband said he agrees.

“It takes about 10 years to train a man properly. You’ve got to be patient with him because he’ll screw up a bunch,” Mr. Obama said during a town-hall meeting at an Indiana steel plant. “But eventually we learn. It just takes us a little longer. We’re not as smart.”

The president made those comments after an audience member wished the Mr. and Mrs. Obama a happy 22nd wedding anniversary. The couple’s anniversary is Friday.

At a women’s forum in Washington in August, Mrs. Obama also said she believes men are less intelligent.

“Every time I meet a child I think, who knows what’s going on in her life, whether she was just bullied or whether she had a bad day at school or whether she lost a parent — that interaction that we have with that individual, that child for that moment, could change their life,” she said. “So we can’t waste this spotlight. It is temporary and life is short, and change is needed. And women are smarter than men.”
