Democratic congressman Gary Peters is regaining his lead over Republican nominee Terri Lynn Land in the race to fill a Senate seat left by retiring Democrat Carl Levin.
An EPIC-MRA poll released Friday shows Mr. Peters leading Ms. Land 42-33 percent, with a margin of error of 4 points.
The results mirror Mr. Peters’ 9-point lead over the former state secretary of state in July — an edge that dropped to 6 points in August before rising again in the new poll, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The newspaper reports that Mr. Peters’ political attacks on Ms. Land appear to be working, as 46 percent of respondents give her an unfavorable rating, up from 34 percent in July.
However Mr. Peters’ unfavorability rating also rose, from 24 percent to 30 percent.
Republicans are hoping to retake the Senate by picking up six seats. So for Democrats, keeping the Michigan seat within the party could be pivotal.
