Ferguson police and protesters clashed yet again, leading authorities to arrest at least half a dozen ralliers for violating the Missouri community’s late-hour noise ordinance.
Mary Moore, a freelance journalist who does work for CNN, was also arrested on unknown charges, The Washington Post reported.
Most of those taken into custody were part of a group known as the Millennials that have been mocking and taunting police for several days, The Washington Post said. Earlier in the week, they took over a street and, with arms linked, dared police to take them into custody.
They made an appearance again on Thursday evening right after police requested protesters keep quiet, in accordance with the noise ordinance that kicks in at 11 p.m.
But protesters only chanted louder and began to approach the police department with their hands in the air, The Washington Post reported. When police started to approach them, the group disbursed and several fled to a nearby sidewalk.
“Get them,” one officer in a brown uniform said to his colleagues, The Washington Post reported. And officers then swarmed in to pull the protesters’ arms apart and arrest them, on charges of “inciting violence” and “failure to obey,” the police said, The Washington Post reported. Ms. Moore was among the crowd, recording the scene.
At least one city official wasn’t happy about the arrest of the journalist.
“What a remarkable display of making your own rules as you go,” said Patricia Bynes, a Democratic committeewoman of Ferguson Township, The Washington Post reported. “They took the journalist who was doing her job and wasn’t involved.”
