On Dec. 10, President Obama will convene a national early childhood education summit at the White House.

At the event, the administration will award $750 million in grants for preschool and Head Start programs, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday.

“The president believes expanding access to high-quality early childhood education is among the smartest and most cost-effective investments that America can make,” Mr. Earnest told reporters.

Mr. Obama also will announce new private-sector investments in early childhood education, Mr. Earnest said.
