In a turnaround from only a week ago, a new poll shows Republican businessman David Perdue leading Democrat Michelle Nunn by three points in the close U.S. Senate race in Georgia.
Mr. Perdue leads Ms. Nunn, 48 percent to 45 percent, in a SurveyUSA poll conducted for Atlanta’s WXIA-TV. One week ago, Ms. Nunn had led Mr. Perdue by two points, 46 percent to 44 percent.
Mr. Perdue had trailed by 13 points among female voters but now trails by just two, and he also leads Ms. Nunn by 10 points among voters who say they’ve already returned a ballot.
Libertarian Amanda Swafford took three percent in the latest poll. If no candidate cracks 50 percent on Nov. 4, the contest heads to a runoff.
Mr. Perdue and Ms. Nunn are tied in Real Clear Politics’ average of recent public polling on the race, which is one of Democrats’ precious few pickup opportunities this year as they cling to a tenuous 55-45 advantage in the Senate. The candidates are running to replace retiring GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss.
The survey of 611 likely voters was taken Oct. 24-27 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
