Wal-Mart is in full damage control mode after online shoppers looking for plus-sized Halloween costumes were directed to a “Fat Girl Costumes” section.

The retail giant issued multiple apologies to people on Twitter and Facebook Monday. Wal-Mart made no mention of who might be at fault for the blunt description.

“We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again,” Wal-Mart tweeted to several users. “This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize.”

It is not clear how long the “Fat Girl” section was active, but the website Jezebel reported at 9:50 a.m. that they were tipped to the page. By 1:30 p.m., the section was completely removed, a Georgia CBS affiliate reported.

The category in question reportedly featured a lot of the same outfits as the Women’s Plus Size Adult section. Jezebel surmised that “some web developer created the section as a ’hilarious’ joke and then neglected to change it.”
