As Republicans on the trail hammer Democrats over foreign policy, the Republican National Committee is out with a new ad highlighting recent scares over the Islamic State and Ebola, as well as a recent report the White House has pushed back on suggesting the Obama administration is looking at ways to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility using executive action.
“ISIS gaining ground. Terrorists committing mass murder. Ebola inside the U.S. Americans alarmed about national security,” a narrator says in the ad.
“What’s President Obama doing? Making plans to bring terrorists from Guantanamo to our country, ignoring the Constitution, Congress, and the American people,” the ad continues, showing a headline from a recent Wall Street Journal article that said the administration was looking at ways to use executive action to move toward closing the facility.
The White House said in response to the story that it is trying to work with Congress on the issue. But the nature of the ad underscores the advantage the GOP feels it has on the issue of national security ahead of Election Day as the administration continues to deal with a myriad of related crises.
“November 4th, Obama’s policies are on the ballot,” it concludes. “Vote to keep terrorists off U.S. soil. Vote Republican.”
