CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Transit Authority has proposed a $1.4 billion budget for next year that doesn’t carry any fare increases or service cuts.
The balanced budget, which was announced Monday, reflects a 4.5 percent spending increase. Capital funds will not be transferred to cover operating costs.
Officials say current bus service levels will remain the same, while rail services will see a modest increase. They expect a 1.1 percent increase in rail ridership and a .7 percent increase in bus ridership next year.
CTA spokesman Brian Steele says rush-hour rail service will be added along the busiest routes, including two added rush-hour trips on the Blue and Orange lines.
A new Green Line station will also open next year to give rail riders better access to McCormick Place.
