MASON, Ohio (AP) - Now that’s a lot of ups and downs.

A southwest Ohio theme park says one of its roller coasters will soon give its 50 millionth ride. Kings Island expects that to happen during Friday night’s “Halloween Haunt” activities at the park in Mason.

The Beast roller coaster opened in 1979, billed as the world’s longest wooden roller coaster at more than 7,000 feet. It travels at speeds of up to 65 mph over its wooded, 35-acre site.

The Beast is still well behind The Racer, which topped 100 million rides this summer at Kings Island. The Racer had a seven-season head start, and has more capacity for riders.
