MORMONS-POLYGAMY
SALT LAKE CITY - Mormon church founder Joseph Smith had an underage bride and was married to other men’s wives during the early days of the faith when polygamy was practiced, a new church essay reveals. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says most of Smith’s wives were between 20 and 40 years old but that one was just 14. While part of the church’s early days, polygamy has been banned in the faith since 1890. BIKINIS-GUNS-INVESTIGATION
SALT LAKE CITY_Utah National Guard members could be demoted, fined or forced to retire for allowing British bikini models onto a Utah County training camp to shoot photos for a calendar featuring women firing high-powered weapons. The state’s National Guard commander says a few military members allowed the models and crew onto Camp Williams earlier this year. Maj. Gen. NAVAJO PRESIDENT-LANGUAGE FLAP
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The top court on the largest American Indian reservation ordered tribal election officials to postpone the Navajo Nation’s presidential election and immediately reprint ballots without the name of a candidate who was disqualified in a language fluency case. The Navajo Supreme Court’s decision Thursday comes after a lower court blocked Chris Deschene from seeking the tribe’s top elected post because he refused to show whether he could speak Navajo fluently, a requirement for presidential candidates under tribal law. SALT LAKE CITY - A series of colorful, eerie faces painted on rocks in some of the West’s most famously picturesque landscapes has sparked an investigation by the National Park Service and a furor online. Agents so far have confirmed the images in Yosemite and four other national parks in California, Utah and Oregon.
