GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - A federal appeals court has sided with the state of Wyoming on a plan to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions from power plants.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday upheld the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to let Wyoming and other states use an alternative plan for reducing sulfur dioxide emissions.

The Powder River Basin Resource Council was among the groups that challenged the plan in the courts.

Council attorney Shannon Anderson tells the Gillette News Record (https://bit.ly/12l9DPj ) that the organization will monitor the situation.

Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead says in a statement that Wyoming’s plan has already proven successful, resulting in substantial reductions of sulfur dioxide emissions.

Still pending before the 10th Circuit is Wyoming’s challenge to the EPA’s partial disapproval of the state’s nitrogen dioxide emissions plan.
