DETROIT (AP) — Some Oakland County commissioners say they want the Detroit Institute of Arts to pay back bonuses and raises given to two top museum executives.
The Detroit News reports (https://bit.ly/1wrXPUE ) that commissioners discussed the compensation issue Thursday.
Voters in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties in 2012 approved a tax to help maintain museum operations. In exchange, residents get free admission. Oakland County contributes $11 million to the museum.
Commitments from the state, foundations and others to donate more than $800 million to soften cuts to municipal pensions while avoiding the possible sale of city-owned art is part of Detroit’s bankruptcy case.
The raises and bonuses were granted before the city filed for bankruptcy.
Museum spokeswoman Pam Marcil says the DIA is “working with county leadership to resolve” the compensation issue.
