Top Chinese and Iranian military officials have committed to closer ties and a more unified approach to dealing with U.S. naval dominance in the Asian-Pacific region.

Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan said to Iranian Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari during a recent visit that China would like to see “further pragmatic cooperation and the uninterrupted development of ties between the two militaries,” China’s Defense Ministry said, The Associated Press reported.

This is the latest reach-out of China to nations that rival the United States, in order to stave off the dominance of Western navies, AP said. Recently, China just made overtures to Russia, in hopes of strengthening military-to-military relations, AP reported.

China and Iran are already linked through their economic endeavors.
