One of President Obama’s top advisers, Valerie Jarrett, has emerged from spinal surgery in good condition and was given the OK to return to work in the coming days.
“Last Monday, Valerie Jarrett was treated for cervical spine stenosis and underwent surgery related to this condition in Chicago,” one White House official said, The Hill reported. “She is thankful for the great care of her doctors and will return to Washington with the president Monday evening to continue her recovery.”
Ms. Jarrett is expected to fly aboard Air Force One to Washington, the official said.
She has been taking part in meetings via telephone but will return full time to her White House job “in the near future” and is “making progress every day,” the official said, The Hill reported.
The University of Maryland Medical Center told The Hill her spine condition is due to a compression of the nerves in the spinal column and leads to numbness, tingling or pain in the arms, legs and hands.
