A leading Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia said in a recent televised broadcast that Twitter is downright evil — and in fact, he said, is the “source of all evil.”

“If it were used correctly, it could be of real benefit,” said Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh, during his “Fatwa” television show, Agence France-Presse reported. “But unfortunately, it’s exploited for trivial matters. … People are rushing to it thinking it’s a source of credible information, but it’s a source of lies and falsehood.”

The cleric also called the social media medium a “source of lies” and “the source of all evil and devastation,” he said, AFP reported.

It’s not clear if the mufti was speaking of particular posts, or of postings on Twitter in general.
