Washington Capitals defenseman John Erskine underwent surgery on a disc in his neck at the Bethesda Surgical Center on Wednesday, the team announced.
Few other details were available, other than that Erskine “is scheduled to begin an intensive rehab program within the next few weeks,” according to a press release. According to multiple reports, the team put Erskine on injured reserve on Wednesday, meaning he will not be able to return until at least the Capitals’ Nov. 1 game at Tampa Bay.
The team had previously announced that Erskine, who had been a healthy scratch for the Capitals’ first five games, did not join the team for its three-game Western Canada road trip, which began Wednesday with a game against Edmonton.
