Alveda King, the outspoken niece of the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., said in a blunt television interview that blacks shouldn’t simply vote based on a candidate’s skin color — that it’s not smart politics.
“People have not really been educated — do not understand — that voting for the color of someone’s skin has not repaired the problems,” she said, on Fox Business Network, adding that politically educated voters wouldn’t automatically vote Democratic.
Ms. King said both her uncle and her father, the Rev. A.D. King, favored independent-minded voting, Newsmax said.
Never one to shy from saying that President Obama hasn’t really helped the black community, Ms. King also held up an issue of Newsmax magazine with the Rev. Al Sharpton on the cover, while saying: “Another comedy of errors anointed by President Obama. God has anointed Jesus of Nazareth, not Al Sharpton,” Newsmax reported.
Ms. King also told the Fox host that she liked about 10 different Republican candidates, including Ben Carson and Sen. Rand Paul.
