Wyoming on Tuesday was poised to become the next state in line to cave to the gay marriage crowd, prepping to file a legal notice that makes clear authorities won’t defend its ban on same-sex unions.
Once filed, the doors open for county clerks around the state to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, The Associated Press reported. At the same time, the state will also recognize gay marriages that are performed in other states.
Gay rights advocates already planned a wedding for Tuesday evening in Cheyenne, AP said.
More than 30 states now recognize the rights of gays to marry, a groundswell that started right after the Supreme Court refused to hear appeals from five states where bans had been enacted by voters and lawmakers.
