Actress Cybill Shepherd said she was born a Christian, turned away from praying during her rising Hollywood years, but has since rekindled a relationship with Jesus — and just shortly after was tapped to act in a film about redemption.
“I was born a Christian, sang in the choir, then I lost touch with my savior Jesus Christ,” she said at a castmate speaking engagement for the upcoming “Do You Believe” film, from the same production company that brought “God’s Not Dead” to American theaters, the Christian Post reported.
She went on: “Then I just started talking to Jesus and I started to feel really good, and I got the offer to do this film,” the Christian Post reported.
The film, from Pure Flix Entertainment, is due out next spring. The story follows of a group of people who have different problems. Ms. Shepherd plays a character who’s married to a man named JD, played by Lee Majors, both of whom are mourning the loss to their daughter.
The different stories all intersect to showcase the “redemptive power of the cross,” the Christian Post reported.
Ms. Shepherd, meanwhile, said she saw nothing coincidental about her return to Jesus and the offer to work in the film.
“[It] gives me chills,” she said, referring to how she became involved with the project, the Christian Post reported. And once she read the script, she said she “cried four times,” the news outlet said.
“I feel very strongly [the script] was not proselytizing,” she said, the Christian Post reported. “It was telling true human stories how we’re all interconnected, how we all get saved.”
Ms. Shepherd has won three Golden Globes and an Emmy nomination for her various work through the years, which included a long-running stint on “Moonlighting” with Bruce Willis.
