Democrats have been busy pushing their “Fair Shot” agenda ahead of the November midterms, and there’s one Republican that’s tired of hearing about it: New Jersey Governor and possible 2016 presidential candidate Chris Christie.
“I’m tired of hearing about the minimum wage. I really am,” Mr. Christie said Tuesday during a speech at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, reported MarketWatch.
Mr. Christie went on to say that a wage hike is not what Americans are discussing at the dinner table, adding that parents have higher hopes for their children than minimum wage jobs.
“They aspire to a greater, growing America, where their children have the ability to make much more money and have much great success than they have, and that’s not about a higher minimum wage,” Mr. Christie said in his speech, according to NJ.com.
A federal minimum wage hike is one of the first planks in the Democrats’ platform this election cycle, with President Obama in February signing an executive order to raise the minimum wage for federal government contractors to $10.10 an hour, up from $7.25 an hour.
Mr. Christie in 2013 vetoed a bill to raise the minimum wage in New Jersey to $8.50 an hour, though voters later approved a ballot measure to increase the wage to $8.25, according to MarketWatch.
