A Chicago man has become a social media sensation after he teased President Obama at the voting booth Monday to keep his hands of his girlfriend.
Mr. Obama stood at a voting booth next to Aia Cooper, whose fiancé, Mike Jones, walked by the two and joked, “Mr. President, don’t touch my girlfriend.”
“I really wasn’t planning on it,” the president quipped.
“I am so sorry, please excuse him,” Ms. Cooper said, erupting into laughter.
“Now there’s an example of a brother just embarrassing you for no reason, no reason whatsoever,” Mr. Obama continued as he perused the ballot in front of him. “Now you’re gonna be going back home, talking to your friends saying, ’I can’t believe Mike — he is such a fool. Fortunately the president was nice about it, so it was all right.’”
An embarrassed Ms. Cooper apologized, telling the president she knew her boyfriend was going to “say something smart,” but she didn’t know what, CNN reported.
“I’m freaking out right now,” she said behind nervous laughter.
Mr. Obama continued the joke as he went to give Ms. Cooper a hug and kiss.
“You’re gonna kiss me, give him something to talk about. Now, he’s really jealous,” he said.
Mr. Jones later told a local CBS affiliate: “It was so silent in there and everyone was just taking pictures I figured I had to say something to make people laugh.”
The president was in Chicago on Sunday and Monday campaigning for Gov. Pat Quinn, who is facing a tough battle for re-election, CNN reported.
