U.S. planes dropped bundles upon bundles of weapons on the besieged town of Kobani in Syria Sunday to help Kurds fight off Islamic State terrorists, Central Command officials said from Tampa.
In all, the Air Force dropped in 27 bundles of weapons using three C-130 cargo planes, USA Today reported.
The Air Force also dropped in ammunition and medical supplies. The Pentagon reported that the “vast majority” actually reached the Kurdish fighters, USA Today reported.
The cargo planes didn’t have fighter jets escorting them because Pentagon officials said the Islamic State didn’t have anti-aircraft capabilities, USA Today said. And they were right: All the aircraft made it home safely, the media outlet reported.
U.S. officials increasingly fear that Kobani — located on the border with Turkey, a NATO ally — could fall to the Islamic State.
