President Obama’s speaking skills seemed to have waned a bit in Maryland, as a portion of the crowd that had gathered for a campaign event stole out early during his remarks — leaving a heckler behind.
Reuters reported that Mr. Obama was in Maryland to help with an evening campaign event for Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, who’s seeking the gubernatorial seat, when he took the podium to tell those gathered that voter turnout was of utmost importance.
“You’ve got to vote,” he repeated, over and over, Reuters reported. “There are no excuses. The future is up to us.”
Not all heard his remarks, however. Many in the crowd actually walked out while he was speaking — and a heckler then stood up and shouted at Mr. Obama, interrupting his speech, Reuters said. It’s not clear from the story what the heckler said.
But the crowd-thinning comes as Mr. Obama’s poll numbers have hit historic lows, leading to many Democrats facing stiff election challenges around the nation to distance themselves from him.
