With just more than two weeks left until Election Day, a new poll shows that likely voters prefer a Republican-controlled Congress to a Democrat-controlled one.
Forty-nine percent of likely voters prefer a GOP-controlled Congress, compared to 44 percent who prefer Democrats to be in control, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Annenberg survey.
Registered voters also prefer a Republican-controlled Congress over one controlled by Democrats, 45 percent to 43 percent.
Illustrating the difficulty Democrats face in trying to get voters who traditionally do not turn out in midterm elections to the polls, Democrats had a 10-point lead among low-interest voters, while Republicans had a 10-point lead among voters who were highly interested in the election.
The poll of 1,172 registered voters and 484 likely voters was conducted Oct. 10-16. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.56 percentage points for the broader sample and 5.42 percentage points for likely voters.
