A conservative group chaired by former Virginia Gov. James S. Gilmore III is launching statewide radio ad campaigns starting Monday to boost Republican candidates for U.S. Senate in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Virginia.

Mr. Gilmore’s Growth PAC will air 1,368 radio spots in Virginia, where Republican Ed Gillespie is working to close the gap in his contest against incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner.

The group is also airing 756 spots in Iowa, where GOP state Sen. Joni Ernst is locked in a neck-and-neck battle with Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley, and 360 ads in New Hampshire on behalf of Republican Scott Brown, who is working to narrow a gap in his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen.

“The issues of economic growth and jobs are not being addressed by the current Senate,” Mr. Gilmore said. “The future competitiveness of America depends on a vibrant economy and skilled workers. Taking control of the Senate is critical to taking control of this economy. By electing Joni Ernst in Iowa, Scott Brown in New Hampshire and Ed Gillespie in Virginia, we will be taking a big step toward that goal.”

Mr. Gilmore, who served as Virginia’s governor from 1998 to 2002, lost to Mr. Warner in 2008 in his own bid for the U.S. Senate.
