U.S. Navy and Marine Corps members are still searching for a missing crew member who fell into the water after the tilt-rotor MV-22 Osprey he was aboard briefly lost power.
The Osprey’s pilot was ultimately able to wrest back control and land on the USS Makin Island, but not before two Marines bailed into the Persian Gulf waters, the Navy reported.
One has been safely recovered and is listed in stable condition, the New York Daily News reported.
“Our focus is on rescuing this Marine,” Navy spokesman Lt. Joe Hontz said on Military.com.
The Navy reported on its website: “U.S. Navy and Marine Corps forces in the North Arabian Gulf are conducting a search and rescue operation for a missing aircrew member who went into the water. … The Navy and Marine Corps will investigate the cause of the incident.”
The names of the two Marines involved in the incident were not released.
USS Makin Island is on a deployment to the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility to support operations in Iraq and Syria, the Navy reported.
