Stephen Bowen to return for Washington Redskins against Tennessee

Stephen Bowen is active and will make his debut on Sunday when the Washington Redskins host Tennessee at FedEx Field.

The defensive end began the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list, returned to practice Wednesday and was added to the active roster Saturday. He underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee on Dec. 3 and did not play after Week 11 last year.

Bowen will not start, but he will likely play around 20 snaps against the Titans as a reserve. With Bowen active, the Redskins will leave Clifton Geathers, who has played in all six games this season, on the sideline.

Inside linebacker Perry Riley will miss his second consecutive game Sunday because of a sprained MCL in his left knee, leaving Will Compton to make his second career start. Riley was considered questionable on the Redskins’ injury report, but did manage to practice in a limited fashion each day this week.

Also inactive for the Redskins on Sunday will be wide receiver Aldrick Robinson, right tackle Morgan Moses and right guard Spencer Long. They ruled out quarterback Robert Griffin III (dislocated left ankle) and cornerback Tracy Porter (strained right hamstring) on Friday.

With Robinson inactive, wide receiver Santana Moss will be active for the second consecutive game. Moss had been a healthy scratch for the first five games and played just one snap a week ago at Arizona.

And, with the Redskins placing inside linebacker Akeem Jordan on injured reserve on Saturday to make room for Bowen on the active roster, outside linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat is active and will make his NFL debut.

Tennessee announced quarterback Jake Locker is inactive because of a right thumb injury, meaning Charlie Whitehurst will make his third start in the past four games. Whitehurst has completed just 58.3 percent of his passes this season, including three for a touchdown with one interception, and has been sacked a combined six times in his last two starts.

Running back Shonn Greene, who has been bothered by an unspecified hamstring injury and did not practice all week, is also inactive, as are cornerback Coty Sensabaugh, defensive end Ropati Pitoitua, outside linebacker Akeem Ayers, tight end Taylor Thompson and left tackle Will Svitek.
