The latest in the Ebola scare is that a Caribbean cruise ship has been placed on a watch list over concerns that a female health care worker who handled a lab-specimen from an infected Liberian — who died of the disease — traveled aboard the vessel.
The government of Belize sent out a statement that it was rejecting a U.S. request to let the cruise ship travel through the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport, CBS News reported. The airport provides service to the Belizean capital.
The statement included an assurance to Belize residents that the health care worker — who has quarantined herself — “never set foot in Belize.” The U.S. State Department, meanwhile, said the female health care worker has shown no signs of Ebola.
Still, the Belize government stood by its decision to reject the ship’s travels.
“While we remain in close contact with U.S. officials, we have maintained the position that when even the smallest doubt remains, we will ensure the health and safety of the Belizean people,” the government said in a statement, CBS News reported.
