GOP Rep. Cory Gardner has a 6-point lead over incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Udall in a new Quinnipiac poll on the Colorado race.
Mr. Gardner’s 47 percent to 41 percent lead among likely voters mirrors an 8-point lead, 48 percent to 40 percent, that Mr. Gardner held in a Quinnipiac survey taken last month.
Independent candidate Steve Shogan takes 8 percent in the new poll. With Mr. Shogan out of the race, Mr. Gardner leads by 5 points, 49 percent to 44 percent.
“There is no significant movement in the race, but a 6-point gap is more interesting than an 8-point gap,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University poll. “Let’s see what the next survey shows.”
Democrats had long banked on Colorado staying in their column this year as they defend a tenuous 55-45 majority in the U.S. Senate, but a strong campaign from Mr. Gardner has turned it into a prime pick-up opportunity for the GOP. Mr. Gardner leads Mr. Udall by 3 points in RealClearPolitics’ latest average of public polling on the race.
The Quinnipiac survey of 988 likely voters was taken from October 8-13 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
