A 31-year-old man in San Diego has reportedly been treated for Google Glass addiction at the U.S. Navy’s Substance Abuse and Recovery Program.
The man checked into treatment in September 2013 after using his Google Glass for up to 18 hours a day for two months. Doctors said he “exhibited significant frustration and irritability related to not being able to use his Google Glass,” CNN reported.
The man had a history of substance abuse, depressive disorder, anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, doctors said.
Google Glass allows users to access online information, shoot photos or video and send messages by voice command or by using the tiny touchpad on the side. This is the first known case of Internet addiction disorder involving the controversial eyewear, doctors said.
After 35 days at the center, the patient experienced less irritability and was no longer repeatedly moving his hand to his temple. Doctors said he still continued to “intermittently experience dreams as if looking through the device,” CNN reported.
