With polls indicating a third-party candidate could have an impact on the U.S. Senate race in North Carolina between Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan and Republican Thom Tillis, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has released a new ad featuring Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

“As a physician and a senator, it bothers me that Kay Hagan doesn’t think you’re smart enough to choose your doctor,” Mr. Paul says.

“Show Kay Hagan that you’re smart enough to choose your doctor and choose a new senator,” he says, as an image of Mr. Tillis and the word “vote for Thom Tillis” appear onscreen.

Mr. Paul had earlier stumped for Mr. Tillis after backing Mr. Tillis’s tea party-supported challenger, Greg Brannon, in a primary earlier in the year.

But Republicans are now hopeful Mr. Paul’s libertarian bona fides can boost Mr. Tillis in a race where Libertarian candidate Sean Haugh is polling in the single digits, but could still influence the outcome if the contest remains close.
