NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie stopped short of joining fellow Republicans in endorsing a proposed ban on travel from the West African countries hardest hit by the Ebola outbreak.

Christie said during a Wednesday night radio interview that he has “real concerns” about the current freedom of travel.

But he said it’s up to the president to make that call.

He says his focus is on preparing the state of New Jersey, where hospitals are staging drills and enhanced screenings at Newark Airport are about to begin.

Asked whether the White House had done enough to help states prepare, Christie said he agreed with the president’s assessment that the response hadn’t been aggressive enough.

He advised people not to panic, to wash their hands frequently and to get flu shots to stay healthy.
