The campaign arm for Senate Democrats is not running any ads right now in Kentucky, according to Roll Call.
A Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee representative told the newspaper that the group has spent over $2 million in Kentucky and “continues to make targeted investments in the ground game while monitoring the race for future investments, but is currently not on the air in the state.”
The announcement does not bode well for Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes’ chances of unseating Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Ms. Grimes was a prized recruit of Democrats, but has struggled to tighten up the race with Mr. McConnell, who is positioned to become majority leader if Republicans flip control of the Senate by winning a net six seats in the Nov. 4 elections.
Ms. Grimes and Mr. McConnell faced off in a debate Monday.
The move by the DSCC was seen as part of an effort to reserve resources for more competitive contests where Democrats are in better positions to win, including in Georgia where Democrat Michelle Nunn is running against Republican David Perdue.
