Sen. Mitch McConnell is near-sure of three things in the lead-up to November elections — that he’ll win re-election, that the Republicans will take over the Senate, and that he’ll be selected to lead the Senate.

He made the prediction during a televised debate with challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes seated next to him. He also told viewers that there’s a much better chance he could provide for Kentucky as Senate Majority Leader than the Capitol Hill hopeful Ms. Grimes could, The Hill reported.

“There’s a great likelihood that i will be the leader of the majority in the Senate next year, and the majority leader gets to set the agenda not only for the country but to look after Kentucky’s interests,” he said, The Hill reported. “So one of the basic questions here is who can do the most for Kentucky over the next six years.”

Ms. Grimes, however, said she could better deal with centrist Republicans on jobs and economic growth.

“That’s how you get things done, not just in Frankfort but in Washington, and that’s what’s been missing,” she said, looking pointedly at Mr. McConnell, The Hill reported. “We haven’t had someone that’s reached out across the aisle to enact a jobs plan.”
