Conservative activist Dr. Ben Carson said Monday that there was a “fifty-fifty” chance that he would seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Dr. Carson said that he was looking more seriously at running as his support group continues to grow.

“In the beginning I thought it was just a passing fad and that it would go away but in fact it seems to be building more and more momentum,” Dr. Carson said. “And the thought of having somebody who is from among the people and who is not necessarily a product of the political class is, I think appealing in many ways. And common sense I think will solve so many more of our problems than being a staunch political insider.”

The National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee announced last month that supporters had donated nearly $10 million in the effort to convince Mr. Carson to run in 2016.

Dr. Carson predicted that Republican candidates would win in the midterm elections, citing a nationwide dissatisfaction with both the president and sitting incumbents.

“People are very concerned about their children, what will happen to their grandchildren,” Dr. Carson said.
