An Air Force captain in full uniform got down on one knee and proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend Sunday night as the Cardinals took on the Washington Redskins in Phoenix.

Claire Thorton, 23, was on the sideline cheering for the Cardinals when U.S. Air Force Capt. Erick Straub came out during the first half of the game and popped the question.

Ms. Thorton said yes, and the crowd roared with excitement. The touching moment was aired on the Jumbotron, Fox Sports reported.

Ms. Thorton is a first-grade teacher, and Capt. Straub is believed to have returned from a tour in the Middle East, The Daily Mail reported.

The couple has traveled to 13 countries and three different continents together, according to her cheerleader biography.

The Cardinals beat the Redskins 30-20 Sunday night.
