Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal had successful wrist surgery Sunday afternoon and will be out approximately six weeks, the Wizards announced.

The third-year shooting guard landed on his left wrist when he was fouled in the first half of Friday’s preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets.

The surgery repaired a non-displaced fracture of the scaphoid bone. It was performed by Dr. Michelle Carlson.

Beal averaged 17.1 points per game last season and said before the preseason started that he and point guard John Wall are the best backcourt in the NBA.

Beal’s injury could open a path for Xavier Silas to make the team.
