The Obama administration is using its position — and taxpayer dollars — to push the president’s desire to increase the federal minimum wage to $10.10.
An email put out by the White House on Friday on behalf of Department of Labor Secretary Tom Perez explicitly makes the case for the public policy change.
“If raising the minimum wage seems like a no-brainer, that’s because it is. And a new whiteboard video from the White House spells it out — in less than 2 minutes,” an excerpt from the mailing reads. “Raising the minimum wage isn’t just the right thing to do to strengthen families — it’s the smart thing to do to strengthen businesses: People would have more money to spend on goods and services. Businesses would see higher productivity and lower worker turnover, too,” Secretary Perez adds.
The Obama administration email then instructs recipients to go to the White House website to view a video on the issue.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi coordinated her messaging on Friday to also push for a minimum wage hike, saying during a conference call, “The American people deserve an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected. … So urgent is this that I think we should come back [to Washington] before the elections.”
