Hillary Clinton is heading to Kentucky to boost Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes’ campaign for U.S. Senate, the Grimes campaign said Friday.

Mrs. Clinton will join Mrs. Grimes at a rally Wednesday at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville.

Mrs. Grimes has struggle to distance herself from President Obama, who is extremely unpopular in Kentucky, repeatedly proclaiming that she is a “Clinton Democrat.”

The Clintons eagerly embraced Mrs. Grimes’ cause. Former President Bill Clinton campaigned with Mrs. Grimes in Kentucky this week.

Mrs. Grimes is locked in a close race with incumbent Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell that will help determine whether Democrats can retain majority control in the Senate after this year’s elections.

“Alison is honored to have Hillary Rodham Clinton on the campaign trail with her less than one month before this important election,” said Grimes campaign manager Jonathan Hurst. “Alison has been a long-time supporter and admirer of Clinton’s leadership and independence, and is humbled that she will be in Kentucky to endorse her campaign and her plan to get Washington working for Kentucky.”
