The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled Wednesday that another appeals court had properly overturned former House Majority Leader Tom Delay’s 2010 convictions on accusations he funneled nearly $200,000 in corporation campaign donations to GOP candidates for the state legislature during the 2002 elections, according to Reuters.
The wire service noted the well-known Republican has insisted he did nothing wrong because the transition did not violate the Election Code.
Judge Cherly Johnson wrote in the decision that though the “wheeling and dealing was a tad shady,” it was legal, according to Reuters.
“What they did today was reaffirm that this wasn’t a prosecution but a persecution by bullies in blue suits over the last decade,” Mr. DeLay’s attorney, Brian Wice, told the wire service.
