The Navy and U.S. Marine Corps are conducting a search and rescue operation for a member of an air crew who jumped into the North Arabian Gulf after an aircraft lost power during takeoff.

The crew member was aboard a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey when the aircraft lost power while attempting to take off from the USS Makin Island, an amphibious assault ship.

Navy officials were using ships, aircraft and boats to search for the member.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway, according to U.S. Fifth Fleet Public Affairs spokesman Lt. Joe Hontz.

The USS Makin Island is currently supporting operations in Iraq and Syria.
