SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Democratic Rep. Sandra Jeff says the state Democratic Party is trying to undermine her write-in candidacy by alleging ethics violations involving her travel expense reimbursements.

Jeff said in a statement Wednesday she had receipts and documentation to show there was no double dipping in reimbursements for trips she made last November and December between Crownpoint and Santa Fe.

The party’s executive director filed an ethics complaint Tuesday against Jeff, asking the secretary of state to investigate whether Jeff billed taxpayers for her travel and then tapped into campaign funds for the same trips.

Jeff said the complaint is a “shameful act of desperation by party bosses who are stooping to new lows” to try to defeat her in the general election and help the Democratic nominee.
