A British bookmaker has cut the odds in half for newly married actor George Clooney to become president someday.
Bookmaker William Hill lowered the odds on Mr. Clooney from 200/1 to 100/1 after his marriage over the weekend to 36-year-old Amal Alamuddin in Venice.
“This follows hints made by family members that Clooney and new bride Amal have political ambitions,” the bookmaker said.
It places the odds at 20/1 for Mr. Clooney to join the race in 2016, although the actor is listed at 500/1 to win it. Hillary Rodham Clinton, at 5/4, is the “red hot favorite,” the bookmaker said.
“George Clooney is not just one of the most recognizable faces in the USA, but in the world, and if he did decide to run for president, he ticks a lot of boxes,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
The bookies have Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Republican, at 9/1 to win in 2016, followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 10/1; New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky at 12/1; Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Vice President Joseph R. Biden at 16/1; House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin at 18/1; and former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney at 20/1.
