Seattle-based Starbucks has released an updated dress code for employees — and au naturale seems the order of the day.
Among the rules for baristas: No fingernail polish. No stone-set engagement rings. No watches, No bracelets. No wristbands allowed, the New York Daily News reported.
“There are food safety rules we have to live by,” the dress code policy reads, the New York Daily News reported. “Here’s the fine print — wearing a ring is OK if it’s a plain band, no stones. Unfortunately, no watches, bracelets or wristbands are allowed. Simple necklaces can be worn under your clothes.”
Baristas must wear their hair so that it “look[s] natural,” the policy states, the newspaper reported.
Still, tattoos are OK in some cases.
“We want customers to focus on you, not your body art,” the policy reads. “Tattoos are allowed, but not on your face or throat.”
And as for piercings, “less is more” in the general rule, the policy said.
Starbucks said the new guidelines are in line with the FDA Food Code, which states that “except for a plain ring such as a wedding band, while preparing food, food employees may not wear jewelry including medical information jewelry on their arms and hands,” the New York Daily News reported.
