The Justice Department is holding “Fair and Impartial Policing training” Thursday and Friday for St. Louis County police officers, the agency announced.
Officers of the Missouri county have recently been embroiled in controversies surrounding racial profiling and police brutality which came to a head in Ferguson after a white police officer shot a black teenager.
The Justice Department has been investigating the incident, and has vowed to take the lead in ensuring unbiased training and police conduct.
The agency’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), said the two-day training is the “latest effort to build trust and strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve,” and would be the first of several such training programs.
