Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office officials said they’ve found the remains of Gavin Smith, a Hollywood executive who went missing after visiting a friend in 2012.
The Daily Mail reported that hikers found the remains in the woods. CNN said the hikers came across his body while walking through the area of Palmdale.
Police said they’re going to release additional information Thursday, ABC News reported.
Smith, 57, a married father of three, was an executive for 20th Century Fox and was responsible for distributing such hot titles as “Avatar” and the “Star Wars” trilogy.
He disappeared in May 2012 after leaving a friend’s home in the Oak Park neighborhood of Ventura County, ABC News reported.
His wife and three sons offered a $20,000 reward for information about his whereabouts, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Police said he simply drove off and never came back. They initially investigated his disappearance as a missing-person case, but changed it to a homicide a few months later, after finding his car at a storage facility.
