MSNBC’s Chris Matthews was a bit outraged in the hours after President Obama’s press conference on the midterm turnout, slamming the commander-in-chief’s vow to reach out to the soon-to-be Republican majority in both houses of Congress as contrary to good governance.
In reference to Mr. Obama’s insistence that he was going to seek and find common ground to govern with Republicans, Mr. Matthews exploded: “Dammit, you cannot run a government on common ground! He misses the point of politics, which is to be a politician and to trade,” Mediaite reported.
Mr. Matthews also offered harsh words of criticisms for Mr. Obama’s suggestion that the lackadaisical voter turnout was to blame for the massive Democratic Party’s losses.
On that note, Mr. Matthew said Mr. Obama refused to look inward — at his own failures to act on immigration reform promises, for instance — “because it’s not in his interest to admit it,” he said, Mediaite reported.
The president simply “plays to his constituency and acts like there’s no other world out there,” Mr. Matthews said, Mediaite reported.
