It does not take a trained psychiatrist to conclude that Barack Obama has lost grip on reality.
Before turning to the substance of President Obama’s post-midterm election remarks, mark these words: Whatever Sen. Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner may concede privately on Friday, they will not continue negotiating for long in leadership positions, should they betray voters and cave in on issues such as errantly rewarding Iran or illegally granting amnesty using supposed executive authority.
Moreover, know this: After Dec. 31, Mr. Obama certainly will lose any constitutional crisis that he provokes.
Recognizing reality outside the Obama bubble
Given the record, that Mr. Obama could still find time to talk trash to sports legend Michael Jordan speaks volumes concerning dangers of insulating powerful officials from frank assessments of their strengths, weaknesses, accomplishments, and failures.
Since Inauguration Day 2009, Mr. Obama has had every opportunity to display his “A” game to a fan base and adoring media that embraced fact-free analysis.
What does America have to show for his part-time efforts, other than towering government debts, incomes that remain under threat and a raft of daunting troubles exacerbated under his too casual watch?
Information regularly provided by agencies under his direct control proves, beyond doubt, that all Americans working in the private sector (a solid majority of voters) have experienced downward pressures on their incomes.
A tiny minority of Americans has money left over to save toward retirement.
Meanwhile, America’s total borrowings and obligations soar upward under his watch.
Sensing America’s weakening financial position and eroding geopolitical strength, enemies and rivals press on.
In addition to the above threats, Mr. Obama will have to contend with real scandals he derides as “phony.” These will be explored persistently in a new arrangement starting soon where the executive branch will not be able to rely upon Democratic allies in the Senate and docile press friends to obscure truth, hide key evidence and impede investigations that appear serious.
Moreover, revelations concerning the true cost and meager benefit of Obamacare will soon flood into public view, even before victors in the recent election are seated.
In the resulting stark contrast between promises continually made and personal experience, Obamacare will get repealed and/or implode under the weight of continuing legal challenges.
Obama must quickly find his inner Jefferson
Supposedly a “constitutional scholar,” Mr. Obama and his decimated legal team need to study history carefully before acting further.
Instead of heeding advice from Gwyneth Paltrow, America’s CEO should heed the original intent of true American titans, such as Thomas Jefferson whose words are crystal clear.
“An elective despotism was not the government we fought for; but one which should not only be founded on free principles, but in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among several bodies of magistracy, as that no one could transcend their legal limits, without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.”
Mr. Obama, America and the world will certainly not benefit should he instigate the convulsion that Jefferson envisaged in 1784: “From the conclusion of this war we shall be going down hill. It will not then be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten, therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves, but in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles, therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of this war, will remain on us long, will be made heavier and heavier, till our rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion.”
Preparing for 2015
The global system of commerce is already threatened by the spread of anarchy inside failed states, the rise of hostile great powers, the virulent growth of radical Islamic jihadists, towering debt burdens and intractable government deficits in advanced nations.
Add to the mix the near certainty that the strongest military power on Earth likely could be wracked by an internal conflict whose seriousness is unmatched in recent history.
Unless he resets and radically alters his reaction to the shock of having been utterly repudiated at the polls, Mr. Obama seems poised to find his relevance following a path trod by Richard M. Nixon some 40 years ago.
Elders in the Democrat Party must act soon to bring Mr. Obama and unelected advisers back from the brink of irretrievable disgrace.
At this moment, America hangs in the balance.
